Wrocław International School and Mr. Dooley's sixth graders welcome Ms. Flynn's Burlington Township Middle Schoolers to our cultural-exchange wiki!
We've put together an introductory video to tell you a little bit about ourselves and make a few inquiries about life in New Jersey. :D

Brandon: Do you watch "ersey hore"?

Victoria: Do you ever go shopping at Juicy Couture?
Basia: What's life like in New ersey?
Andrea: Are there any famous people in New Jersey?
Kristian: Are there any Polish people in New Jersey?
Hyoung Jun: What's life like for Barack Okbima?

Here in the United States, we just love Halloween! On Halloween, we love to dress up in costumes, and go trick-or-treating. When we go trick-or-treating, we go door to door and people give us candy. Some popular candy in the United States include: Reese’s, Hershey bars, M&M’s, Skittles, and many more.
During the Halloween season, many of us like to decorate our houses. Many of us carve jack-o-lanterns and put them in front of our houses on Halloween night. Some of us even put Halloween lights on our houses!
Halloween is a very fun time of the year in the United States! In Poland and in your home countries, do you celebrate Halloween? If so, do you celebrate it the same ways that we do, or are there any traditions that are different?
Corboi :Here in the United States we have many way's to celebrate Halloween. The most common one is listed above but there are other ways. For example in certain churches they park their cars and leave their trunks open with candy for kids.Malls all over the country open up with people who give candy to kids who don't celebrate Halloween .Now you know how we celebrate Halloween here tell us how you celebrate it in Poland and your native countries if you celebrate it at all.
Elijah : In the United States we get lots of candy during hallowen. We trick or treat, that means we go to door to door and get free candy. We are not used to this but some people in the U.S likes to trunk or treat as well. That means people go to car to car and get free candy. It is very fun we go to parties and we do competitons and whoever wins gets candy for prizes. It is really fun in the U.S but we would really like to see how you guys celebrate.

Matt : When we are trick or treating, saftey is very important! A cop car comes around to make sure you and everbody else are safe and no bad tricks are happening aroud the town. For your saftey, your parents can come trick-or-treating. Also, your friends can go around in a group with you. Then we check our candy to make sure it is safe, and not damaged.

Casey: In America on Halloween night we do practical jokes; like scaring trick-or-treaters or setting up decorations that pop out at you when you walk by. At my house my sister and I act like decorations while we are dressed in our costumes and when people walk by us we jump out and scream. We also turn on the fog machine and open the door right when they are going to knock. My dad paints a step here sign for a decoration black to match our driveway so people dont know its there. Do you do practical jokes on Halloween or in your home countries? If so what do you do?

Jaclyn: Here in the United States, we have Holloween Traditions. Some of the most popular holloween traditions are at amusement parks, like six flags. At six flags they have something called Fright Fest. At Fright Fest, the workers dress up in scary costumes and try to scare you. Other popular things in the U.S are Haunted Hayrides. There are a bunch of haunted hayrides in the U.S around holloween time. Haunted prisions\jails are popular too. Theres one where you get locked in a real jail from 1-2 hours. I hear its really scary. Do you guys have any holloween traditions? If so, what are some of them?

Noelle: The candy we eat in America is Snickers, Twix, Butterfingers, Reeces Cups, Sour Patch Kids and many more. On Halloween in the U.S (October 31st) we walk around our neighborhood ang get candy. We say trick or treat once we nock on someone's door. Then they give us candy! What kind of candy do you eat in Wrowclaw? Is Halloween on Octuber 31st too?

Cameron: The food we eat here on Halloween includes candy, candy, and more candy. But the food we eat here during the fall includes apples, pumpkins, and everything that can be made with them. The foods that can be made with apples include apple cyder, apple donuts (my favorite), apple pie, etc. The foods that can be made with pumpkins include pumpkin pie, pumpkin roll, the seeds from the pumpkin, etc. Do you eat pumpkin, apples, and candy during the fall and Halloween (if you celebrate Halloween)?

Rikhin: Halloween is a very fun celebration, especially when you have decorations. There are many different types of decorations. In my house we have more of the friendly decorations. They are not scary ,but still make halloween fun. My neighbor is very into halloween. he has about thirty decorations. Some people don't even go to his house beacuse they are to scared. On halloween do you decorate your house? Is your house that really scary house or the friendly house?BOO!

Brandon: We love to send around myths in the United States. One big myth is the legend of Bloody Mary and have you ever seen the moive its so freaky. The myth is that you say her name in the mirror 3 times. They say that after you do that to turn on the lights and she appears next to you. Another on that we have is the myth of puratory road. they say that you go up satairs and you see writing on walls. One of the people that went up came down and got chased out by an adult ghoast with an ax. One other big thing that we celebrate in the United States is wearing costumes. We do this when we go trick or treating on Halloween night. These costumes are made from moives that we buy each year and then wear. Some popular costumes are michael myers, Booggy Man, and Freddy Cogger. In poland do you guys wear costumes.

Nick: In the U.S. we have a night the day before halloween. It's called Mischief Night. Mischief Night is when people in the U.S. go around to peoples houses and throw toilet paper in peoples trees and houses. But then there are people who throw eggs at peoples cars and houses. Also people throw rock through windows but there are very few people that do that.Do you guys have anything like this? If so what is it like?

Ryan: In America, We have many different decorations. We have pumpkins witch can be picked by hand, or bought at a store. You can carve the pumpkin to make a face into it. This is called a Jack-o-Lanturn. People put these pumpkins and jack-o-lanturns on there porch. Some people buy spider webs and put them on their bushes, trees, doors, ect. The webs, ARE fake. They look very real. And some people buy giant fake spiders to put on the webs. Strobe Lights are fast, blinking lights that can make people dizzy, and homes look very frightening with them on. Little Children get frightened very often with the lights. Caution Tape is yellow tape that excludes people from a certain area, due to police investigating. People buy the tape and cover their yard with it so it looks like some one was murdered on their yard! Also, people dress up in costumes, that can be scary, funny, and childish. Most costumes are bought, but can be made, When you have a costume on, you walk around the neighborhood, and knock on people's doors, say "TRICK OR TREAT" and they will give you some candy, or treats! If you don;'t wear a costume, you should'nt get candy. BE CREATIVE WITH YOUR COSTUME!!!!!! Moist famlies allow children to dump out all candy and eat some once their done TRICK OR TREATING. Candy lasts about 5-7 Months!!!! Parents buy candy to give out when children come to their homes!AND IF YOU THINK WE BUY A LOT OF STUFF AT HALLOWEEN, JUST WAIT UNTIL CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jakob: In Germany, we celebrate Halloween pretty much the same way as you do in the US. Not many people celebrate it, although the numbers are constantly increasing. We also go trick-or-treating, but Germans know nothing of trunk-or-treating. As for decorations, they consist mostly of cut-outs of pumpkins, ghosts, witches, etc. We don't have any spooky legends about Halloween, but we like to tell ghost stories by candlelight in the evenings, after it's dark. In the city, it's not so easy going trick-or.treating because 1) there are, even at night, a lot of cars and 2) there are a lot of street lights, and those make the costumes look totally harmless, even ridiculous. Parents arrange themselves to have some candy at the ready should the children come to trick-or-treat ( which mostly, they do!).

Hyoung Jun: In South Korea, we don't celebrate Halloween.
Brandon: I don't know about any different traditions in Austin, Te xas but some people in Texas celebrate The Day Of The Dead. Originally, this came from Mexico and people go to the graves of their dead loved ones and pray to their relatives and decorate their graves with fl owers and other things of that nature, it's a lot like what people do on Halloween in Poland.
Andrea: In Mexico we have a beautiful culture about Hallo ween but in Mexico we do not call it 'Halloween' we call it 'Dead Day' but its similar as Halloween. In Mexico we celebrate it with parade with many people with strange a pretty costumes and fireworks,we have a bread to eat in this day called 'Dead Bread' the truth is that is so delicious is mostly with many sugar. I live in the Stae of Mexico but in the State of Oaxaca the family of the dead person go to her or his cemetery and they put flowers, cigarrs, drinks, food and the Dead Bread. But 'Halloween' in Mexico is that all kids, teenagers and some of the adults go to each house with costumes to give us candies or chocolates or only scare us but is so so so pretty. THANKS FOR READING IT!

Basia: In France, we celebrate Halloween a lot the same way as you do. We go trick or treating the 31st of October. We eat a lot of candy (espacially Haribo) and we decorate our house with scary stuff. We also carve pumpkins and with the inside, we make pumpkin soup. We also tell scary stories. Halloween in France is mostly for kids and not for adults and not everyone celebrates it. In Poland, pretty much bo one celebrates it but we go to the graves the 1st of November and pray and put flowers or candles. That's pretty much all about jow people celebrate Halloween and the day of the Dead in France an in Poland.

Victoria: In Spain we dont realy celebrate Halloween. In the city I live its only English or American people living there, so it's normal for them kids going around and asking for candy. american people sometimes give us hugeeee packets of haribos XXL they are amazing. I remember that all the Spanish people gave has 20 cents or 1 euro because they didn't have any candy. Its not a real tradition in Spain. In Spain there is a legend of Veronica. It is about a girl that died because somebody stuck her scissors to her neck. So now at night if you get scissors you lock yourself in the bathroom you look in the mirror and shut the light, put on 5 candles around you, turn around and say 3 times veronica then she will appear and the scissors will try to kill you!!! muahahaha!!! :P

In America we play a sport called ice hockey. In this sport you wear ice skates and you go around the ice to go and get the puck. When you get the puck the point of the game is to put the puck in the back in the net so that you get points. After 60 minuets the person with the most goals or points is the winner. In hockey there are a lot of rules so that the players do not get hur

Corboi Flomo: In America we have many games most of them are foreign so you might know some.Capture the flag is a popular game in which 2 try to take the other teams flag and get it to there side. Tag also popular is when 2 or more people play, 1 person is ''it'' while the other person or people playing attempt to not get ''tagged'' or become ''it''.The final game that I consider childish, but important is leap-frog in which one person suats on all fours and the other person leaps over him, then after landing the leaper squats and the process begins again. Here are some American games. Now give us some popular Polish games.

Ryan: In America, There are many American teams for all sports. There are 32 teams for the NFL (National Football League). There are 30 teams in the MLB (Major league baseball). 1 team in the MLB is from Canada. Many teams in these leagues are located in a city. But some, like the Tennessee Titans, are located in a state. (Tennessee is a state). Altough, the New England Patriots take up 6 states, beacuse New Enland has the smallest states, there would be too many stadiums.Popular NFL teams around here are the Eagles, Giants, Jets, Ravens, Steelers, Patiots, and the Rams. Populare MLB teams around here are the Phillies, Yankees, Mets, Oriales, Red Socks, Pirates, Reds, and the Cardinals. The Cardinals recently won the World Series. (Although it only contains the MLB teams.)

Hyoung Jun Lee: In South Korea, there are many popular sports. Such as baseball, golf, archery, table tennis, ski-jump, short-track

Kristian: In Australia, There are alot of sports that are very popular because of the wheather. There is Swimming,Volley ball,Surfing,Water Ball, and some people like Rugby. In Australia Swimming is something that everybody knows If you go to Australia you wouldn't be able to find a person that doesn't swim. Surfing is popular because on many beaches in Australia the waves can be over 4 meters tall on some days but normally the waves are normal but if you go further on then you will have huge waves. Water ball is popular because every one likes going to the beach and there are so many peole there so the swimmers decided to star playing that game and then everybody started playing it. Rugby isn't too popular in Australia but people do play it.

Victoria: Sport in Spain is mainly dominated by football, basketball, cycling, tennis, handball and motorsports. However, the country has had world champions in sports as diverse as fencing, paddle tennis, water polo, sailing, boxing, gymnastics or athletics.
Additionally, the country is a major tourist attraction because of its sports facilities, including facilities for water sports, golf and skiing.

Andrea: In Mexico we have a lot of Sports Games but in special we have Soccer, Mexico loves soccer. Everytime that its a soccer TV game the mexican people enjoy it in their houses with their families with their painted faces and mexican shirts. In Mexico the soccer this from many years ago.

Basia: In France people play a lot of football. But we also play bicycling, golf, hiking,

sports, tennis and voleyball.
Rikhin: I am a huge sports fan. My favorite teams are Mets (baseball), Red Bulls (soccer), Giants (american football), Devils (hockey) ,and Nets (basketball). I play baseball, soccer and basketball in leagues. I play hockey and football for fun.I get a lot of trash talk because my favorite teams are hated where I live. People bet on there teams too. Sometimes it is just money. But it could be a candy bar or a car. Also in America we have fantasy sports. In fantasy sports you pick players you think will play well. The other players in your league will do the same. Then you vs. each other. Each player will earn points and which ever team scores the most points win. What sports do you play and do you have fantasy sports?
Noelle:Sports we play in the U.S. is soccer, feild hockey, football, and baseball. But mostly we play football an example is Phittsburg, Steelers. A lot of people love football in the U.S. When it is the Superball eveyone celebrates by making a lot of food and being wild. My dad makes food like meatball sandwiches, salad, chicken, and chips. We also like baseball an example is New York, Yankes. My family doesn't really celebrate when it is the last day of baseball but other people might. Most girls plat soccer and chearleading and boys play football. What sport do you play? What is your favorite team in your country?

Ryan: To be a seccsessful team in America, you need a mascot. The Philadelphia Phillies have the Philly Phanatic. The Philly Phanatic was voted, best mascot for all sports, all teams in America!!!!!!!! (He looks sad because the team lost a game)

They have the bald eagle because Philadelphia used to be the capital of the USA, and our nation's bird in the bald eagle, and they chose it back then. Now they still have the Eagle.

Like the Eagle is riding a Quad. The fireworks makes the crowd cheer, so the team will do better.

Elijah & David: There are many different uniforms and logos. First we will start of with the NBA (National Basketball Association) teams. The Chicago Bulls they are red, black, and white. The Miami Heat which is red, black, white. Memphis Grizzlies blue, white, and gray.Sanantonio Spurs they are silver, black, white, and gray. Now for the NFL(National Football League) Greenbay Packers which is yellow, white, green, and black. The Baltimore Ravens which is purple silver and white. The New York Jets wear green and white. The New York Giants wear red, white, blue, silver. Denver Broncos blue, orange, and white. Clevland browns are brown, white, and orange. NCAA is short for National College Association Acrobatics. Some team colors are (miami Hurricanes) orange, green, and white. (Oregon Ducks) green, white, silver, black, and yellow. (LSU) yellow, white, and purple. LSU's logo is a tiger. Oregons is a duck just like miami. There are many different logos and teams on tv that we watch on tv. We would really like to see what teams you guys watch and enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matthew: In the United States, we play sports such as American football, basketball, soccer, and baseball. I am going to talk about football. the football team that we have are the Burlington Township Falcons. We won our championship game. Which sports do you play?

Jaclyn: Here in the United States, sports are a big thing. There are many sports that us Americans like to play. Some sports we play are softball/baseball, football, cheerleading, hockey, gymnastics, soccer, and field hockey. I do cheerleading and tumbling. Tumbling is just like gymnastics, except you don't go on bars or balance beams. Tumbling is just like gymnastics, but you do flips on the mats, not the bars and beams. What sports do you guys play where you live?

Cameron: Gymnastics is a very hard sport. There are four events. They are beam, uneven bars, floor, and vault. And if you're really good at gymnastics, you could go to the Olympics. Gymnastics is the sport that i do. It s very easy to get hurt. Therefore, there are a lot of rules regarding safety. Here are some: When performing on beam, there must always be a mat under the beam. When performing on uneven bars, there must always be a mat under the bars. When performing on floor, only one person can perform at a time. Do you guys do gymnastics?

Casey- Here in the U.S many people play soccer. There are proffesional women and men teams as well as 1st grade through college teams. One big event in soccer is the world cup, as you may know, many teams from all over the world come to play soccer with other countries. Last year U.S.A womens team came in 2nd place! Some U.S teams are- Philidelphia Union, Chicago Fire, and Carolina Dynamo.

Cameron: Winter break is when we have a few days off from school. The reason for being off around this time of year (half day of school on December 23 to January 2) is because most people celebrate the holidays. Some of the holidays that are celebrated around this time are Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, and New Years. Are you guys off for Winter Break?

Hyoung Jun: In South

Andrea: In Mexico the Christmas is like New Jersey...well I think so.
In Mexico the Christmas is like that: In 24 of December is Christmas dinner and this night is when Santa Claus.
We open the gifts in 25 of December. In Mexico is a place called Zocalo, in this place it is a bigger Christmas Tree and every holiday is a parade there
Ryan: Christmas is a holiday where we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the leader of christianity. People decorate their homes with many decorations. They use wreaths, and Christmas Trees. Trees are decorated with ornaments, and with a star or an angel on the top. On December 24th, chilrdren go to sleep, and in the morning, they come downstairs, and there will be presents under neath the christmas tree. Children leave out cookies and milk so Santa can eat them. Santa is a very very very fat man who brings the presents. Family sometimes come to visit if they live far away. For example, I have family in Alaska, California, Missouri, and Ireland. Did you know that a nutcracker was invented in Germany in 1700. My family buys a new nutcracker every year because we're German. Christmas is a wonderful holiday, and my birthday is the day after Christmas! I love this season!!!!!!!!!

Matthew: My family has its articicial tree. Another tree is a fake Christmas tree. My family takes turns to put the ornimants on the tree, from youngest to oldest. Do you celibrate Christmas? If so, do you have a tree?

Elijah: There are many different decorations for the Christmas holiday. There are ornaments, lights, mini trees, reefs, etc. Do you have special ornaments that you put on the tree. I do, since my mom, cousin, and I were born on the last three decades we have pictures of us when we were born with the decade under. I love decorating the tree. The lights are beautiful! It mkes my house look great and it makes it pop!! Everything about Christmas is great. Do you guys celebrate this great holiday like we do? If you do, write back....we can't wait to hear!! :)

Preksha- Hi, i was reading an article about the Year of the Dragon. It was pretty interesting. More than 1 billion people around the world celebrate the Lunar New Year. The 2012 Lunar New Year on January 23 marks the begining of the year of the Dragon in Chinese tradition. The Lunar New Year is celebrated at the second new moon after the winter solstic. Buddha announced that people born in each animal's year would have that animal's personality. 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, and 2000 are the years of the Dragon. 1972 is rat, 1999 is rabbit, and 2002 is horse. On Lunar New Year's Eve the Chinese celebrate with firecrackers, family gatherings, and festivals. I think it' is neat to learn about other cultures.

When his friends were outside playing or partying, he would stay inside becuase he knew that he had to practice for soccer. Lionel Messi is a team player. The character Lorax is a stuborn but a loving forest guardian who speaks for the trees. His phsical apperance looks like a big orange puff ball with a yellow mustach. A young boy named Ted is on a quest to find a living truffla tree. All the trees have been cut down by the Once-ler to be made into thneed the were to be sold. Ted decided to ask the Once-ler for help. The Once-ler tells the storyof the Lorax and what happened to all the trees. Including the Once-ler's role in the destruction. The story of the Lorax is known by most children here in America and a very entertaining story too.
